Our Story: Donna Giuseppina’s Legacy

A Destiny Written in the Land

It all began with Giuseppina Di Salvo. Born in 1925 amidst the splendor of Palermo’s *Liberty* era and the granddaughter of the distinguished lawyer Liborio Di Salvo, Giuseppina seemed destined for a life of ease and high-society gatherings. Yet, after completing her teaching studies and entering into an aristocratic marriage with Antonio De Gregorio, Prince of San Teodoro, destiny called her elsewhere—to the rugged yet bountiful lands of the Sicilian interior.

A Visionary’s Revolution

In 1966, upon her father’s death, Giuseppina inherited an agricultural estate that was frozen in time, burdened by debt and the outdated practices of the *mezzadria* (sharecropping) system. In a deeply patriarchal rural world, a woman taking sole command was a challenge.

Never the one to give up, Giuseppina took the reins with extraordinary determination:

She modernized operations, transforming sharecroppers into salaried employees and introducing the first machinery.

She challenged bureaucracy with a courageous—and at times audacious—spirit, driven by the need to protect the family legacy.

She focused on wine, planting vineyards throughout the 1970s and 1980s with a foresight that anticipated the renaissance of Sicilian wine.

Feudo Tudia: The First Agritourism in the Province of Palermo (and Perhaps in All of Sicily!)

In 1995, almost on a whim, Giuseppina recognized the potential of rural hospitality. Thus, Feudo Tudia was born—the first establishment to receive official authorization as an *agriturismo* in the province of Palermo. Tudia was not merely a business; it was her heart and soul—a place she had transformed through sheer tenacity and regarded as her most cherished creation.

From the Roots to the Future: Antonio and Alessandra

Giuseppina was a strict yet thoroughly modern mentor. She taught her grandchildren, Antonio and Alessandra, the value of perseverance, ensuring they studied English and computer skills back when these subjects were still pioneering in Sicily.

After the tenure of her son Vincenzo—who stewarded the estate for over a decade—the mantle has now passed to the grandchildren. After spending decades abroad working in international settings, Antonio and Alessandra felt the call of their roots.

"We returned to Tudia to honor our grandmother's vision, bringing with us the experience we gained around the world to protect and help this corner of Sicily flourish."

Today, Feudo Tudia is more than just an agritourism destination; it is the living story of a family that, for five generations, has lovingly cultivated the future of its land.
